Photojournalism, Publishing, and Community Engagement
In a time of continuing evolution in the technologies, cultures, and critiques of photojournalism, photographers have innovated and experimented with new models and platforms for presenting and disseminating work in meaningful ways, including photography book publishing which no longer requires the logistics and high costs of large traditional publishers. Co-founder Alan Chin of Redhook Editions, formed and managed by working photographers, will discuss how photographers make their work more accessible and relevant to local communities, especially their own, Documenting Detroit is such an initiative, mentoring photographers in Detroit and presenting their images in exhibitions, public events, and large scale public art installations and projections.
