Idris Talib Solomon
I have been a freelance photographer for the past 6 years, beginning as a documentary photographer on a self-assigned project titled “Blackbirds.” This project has gone on to win several awards and has been published in The New York Times, Slate, American Photography 35, and The Fence outdoor exhibit in various states. The success of this project has led to assignments for The New York Times, NBC News, Reuters, Bloomberg, and ESPN. Additionally, I have shot stills for commercial broadcast clients such as Amazon Prime’s Eco Challenge and the Drone Racing League which has aired on NBC the last 2 seasons.
While my passion is documentary and portrait photography, I have extensive experience as a digital art director and creative director in the advertising and broadcast industries. I’ve created campaigns for HBO, Nikon, Johnnie Walker, and American Express. My eye for design combined with my marketing awareness provides a unique lens for my photography.
My interest in the film industry has pushed me into documentary filmmaking. I also have directing, video and editing experience which helps me to understand the importance of the still image while in production.
I love the freedom of creativity. I live my life by it and include my wife and son in my creative process as often as I can.
