Dr. Martin Smith-Rodden
Dr. Martin Smith-Rodden teaches in the Journalism Department at Ball State, where he is the coordinator of the photojournalism sequence. For more than 3 decades he’s been a photojournalist, photo editor and team leader. He’s worked in the Baltimore/Washington, San Antonio (Texas) and Norfolk (Virginia) metro areas. He also happens to be a cognitive psychologist and specialist in Media Psychology (PhD from Old Dominion Univ. Norfolk, VA). In 2011, he was named Photo Editor of the Year by the National Press Photographers Association’s Best of Photojournalism competition. He was also Mid-Atlantic Photographer of the Year (1996). He currently serves in the boards of National Press Photographers Foundation (NPPF) and The Kalish Visual Editing Workshop. This year the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) awarded him the Robin F. Garland Educator Award.
