Stephen Voss

Stephen is a photographer based in Washington, DC. Born and raised in New Jersey, Stephen got his start in high school photographing his friends skateboarding for an independent skateboarding magazine he published. After graduating from The George Washington University in Washington, DC, Stephen’s first real photography job was taking pictures for the Willamette Week, the Pulitzer Prize-winning weekly newspaper based in Portland, Oregon. After moving back to Washington, DC in 2005, he began covering politics and spends most of his time now making portraits of people in power and those seeking power. Personal projects have included walking the length of the DC border and spending two years on a book project photographing bonsai trees. His clients include The New York Times Magazine, Time, The Atlantic and Vanity Fair. His work has been recognized by the White House News Photographers Association, American Photography and Communication Arts among others and his photographs are held in the permanent collection of the Library of Congress. When not taking pictures, he loves traveling with his family, gardening and running.
