Alicia Wagner Calzada

Alicia Wagner Calzada is NPPA’s Deputy General Counsel. Prior to becoming an attorney focused on media law, First Amendment, and copyright, Alicia was a professional photojournalist for over 20 years, working as both a staff photographer and an independent photographer. Since 2011, she has been serving the legal needs of individual photographers as well as a broad range of local and national media organizations, including print, electronic, and broadcast. She counsels her clients on a variety of matters including social media, First Amendment, photography use, drone use, open government, and contract issues, defamation, and copyright. Alicia has represented NPPA in several lawsuits challenging unconstitutional laws and was a part of the effort to gain passage of the FILM Act, a federal law passed in 2024 that eliminated onerous commercial film permit rules in national parks. She was also part of a decades-long coalition effort to obtain passage of the CASE Act, which created a copyright small claims tribunal in 2020.
