David Larson
David Larson is a film/TV director of both narrative and documentary projects. He also co-founded Early Light Media, a production company based out of Baltimore, MD which focuses on using video as a medium to capture our interconnectivity as humans in a way that is both beautiful and relatable. Dave looks for the emotion behind the message and seeks to peel back the information to reveal something relatable to the audience. He is a disciplined photographer and an intuitive storyteller who uses the human experience as a canvas for creative expression. Dave balances technical savvy and gorgeous cinematic images with his ability to blend into the background to capture real moment-driven stories making his work connect on deeper levels. Dave’s filmmaking talents have garnered him many industry awards. His short film “Throw,” pulled in a Vimeo Staff pick in 2015 and numerous prestigious film festival awards including the Festival Directors Award at Mountainfilm in Telluride. He currently has two documentary films airing on Discovery+. As a journalist, he was named NPPA Top West Regional Photographer of the Year in 2012 and 2013 and was a finalist for the NPPA Ernie Crisp Television News Photographer of the Year in 2010, 2011, and 2012. Most rewarding to Dave are the opportunities to give back to the creative community through film and photography. Whether that is teaching younger creatives in the industry about the nuances of production or devoting time to passion projects that highlight powerful stories within our society, Dave believes in paying it forward. On a more personal level, Dave enjoys all things music, baking bread, talking Star Wars fan theories with his brothers, and spending time with his wife and two girls.
