Lauren Katzenberg is an editor on The New York Times’s international desk. She recently took over coverage of Latin America, and previously oversaw The Times’ reporting of Afghanistan.

Lauren joined The Times in February 2018 as the editor of the At War channel, which was reborn under the aegis of the magazine. In this role, Lauren oversaw a range of journalism, from first-person accounts written by military veterans, combat correspondents and refugees, to in-depth, enterprise reporting. In 2020, she joined The Times’ international desk.

Before joining The Times, Lauren worked for four years as managing editor of Task & Purpose, a digital publication that she helped found covering military and veterans issues. She also was part of the original editorial team of War on the Rocks, a foreign policy web magazine.

Lauren, a proud Massachusetts native, moved to Kabul in 2010 to work for a local production company. For two years, she produced television and radio shows in Dari and Pashto, from documentaries to serials to public health campaigns. She then completed a master’s degree in London at the School of Oriental and African Studies.
